Last Saturday, the undefeated BHS Softball team went up against Montezuma-Cortez in a conference doubleheader at home. In the first of two games, Basalt won, 16-6, and again in the second game, 11-4.
Senior Zoe Vozick hit a triple in both games, which allowed for two RBIs in each instance, helping Basalt take the lead. Junior Maya Lindgren pitched all six innings of the first game with a total seven strikeouts. Basalt won at the end of the sixth inning, leading by 10 runs and allowing for the mercy rule. In the second game, after several innings of no runs from either team, Basalt scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh, securing another win.
Basalt also played Eagle Valley High School this week in a doubleheader. They won 13-7 and 14-9. Their next home game will be during Homecoming week, on Sept. 21 against Cedaredge. For more on BHS Softball, please see Jim Williams’ coverage on page 11.
