On April 28, more than 200 locals gathered at Lions Park in downtown Basalt for the 21st Annual Fryingpan River Cleanup. Despite overnight rain, it was blue skies and spring flowers at the park as people enjoyed a pancake breakfast served up by the local chapter of the Lions Club. Participants were assigned to a one-mile stretch of river, from the Ruedi dam all the way to the Roaring Fork River. With trash bags in hand, people combed the river's edge and along the Frying Pan Road for trash, large and small. Prizes were awarded for Best of Trash, Most Toxic, Most Useful and Most Unusual Trash.
