The Buddy Program’s Outdoor Leadership group from Roaring Fork High School spent three beautiful spring days at the McNamara Hut. The LEAD (Leadership through Exploration, Action, and Discovery) Outdoor Leadership program is an experiential mentoring opportunity and serves nearly 100 teens a year at seven schools from Aspen to Carbondale and in Rifle, teaching hands-on life skills like teamwork, communication, decision-making, goal-setting, confidence and trust, all through the lens of backcountry travel.

Students also gain hard skills and knowledge, such as navigating with map and compass, backcountry cooking, Leave No Trace ethics, Wilderness First Aid and winter backcountry travel skills, and in the high school program earn dual high school and Colorado Mountain College credit.

The Buddy Program empowers youth through mentoring experiences to achieve their full potential.  More info at: buddyprogram.org
